Barnegat Light

Barnegat Light is a borough located in Ocean County of New Jersey, with a variety of tourist accommodations and a reasonably dark sky, about 69 miles (111 km) east of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Hotels, vacation lodges, and campgrounds are all available within the county and in neighboring cities. However while a beautiful destination for casual gazing, the area is not recommended for serious observations; the EarthSky friend who recommended Barnegat Light says it “offers peace and quiet, wide streets on which to bicycle, walk, and jog, and widespread less populated beaches, with clear, dark night skies.” Others say Barnegat Light has a variety of compositions astrophotographers can use for their foreground, and that the large rock jetty near Barnegat Lighthouse State Park is great for capturing the Milky Way.
