Cropped and sharpened
These moths hang around our front porch all summer and into fall when the flowers fade away. I like to sit there and watch them in the evenings when there are 4-5 busy drinking nectar from the Valerian beds as seen in the action shot. They also are attracted to the porch light like many nocturnal insects and this one was resting the entire day bedside the light on the stonework. Once the sun set it took flight and straight to the flowers for meal time. They're like the nighttime hummingbirds of the insect world. Interesting that their hind wings are also red like the Nevada Red Winged Grasshopper from my earlier post. Probably a reason for that.
