Image Details:

Waning Crescent Moon, Mercury and Jupiter Rising.
Unexpected early morning cloud prevented any observation of the Waning Crescent Moon in close conjunction with Jupiter on Wednesday 17th. Almost clear conditions on Thursday 18th provided a spectacular view of the now thin 2% illuminated Moon rising below both Mercury and Jupiter in the emerging red glow of a Volcanic Sunrise! Mercury with Jupiter above first appeared over the ENE Cecil Kop horizon while it was still dark at 5.06 am to be followed by the Moon in a glowing red sky at 5.25 am. The three objects were then photographed ascending in the colorful glare of a growing volcanic sunrise twilight arch which became so bright that they all disappeared into it just before 6.00 am.
