A Rufous hummingbird on a Pacific myrtle tree. He perched momentarily, usually he flies swiftly from branch to branch. In good light his throat feathers appear vivid iridescent red-orange.
Rufous (derived from the Latin Rufus) is a color that may be described as reddish-brown or brownish-red, as of rust or oxidized iron.
