The iconic Syrtis Major. In this image, Syrtis Major is in the center and juts upward. Sinus Sabaeus is to left of Syrtis Major (with a hint of Schiaperilli crater and Meridiani Planum at the limb). To the right of Syrtis Major are the heavily cratered highlands of Tyrrhenum Planum. Hellas Basin is south of Syrtis Major and is one of the largest impact craters in the solar system. To the north is the northern polar hood, a dense layer of clouds currently overlying the north polar ice cap.
