'Rolling' Sunset on Murahwa Mountain.
Twice a year, if the sky is clear in early October and March, the setting Sun, when observed from my viewpoint on Murambi Heights, appears to roll down the southern flank of Murahwa Mountain. Yesterday (3rd October) a cloudless but smoke-hazed sky provided an uninterrupted view of a Murahwa Mountain ‘rolling’ sunset with sunspots visible on a close-up video frame captured when the Sun was behind a rocky promontory halfway down the slope. The reason for the ‘rolling’ sunsets is that the angle at which the sun descends towards the horizon is very similar to the slope of the mountain. They also mark two day intervals after which the advancing spring (October) Sun continues to shine for 10 minutes longer before setting and the receding autumn (March) Sun begins to set 10 minutes earlier.
