The Full Harvest Moon (taken a few hours before it peaks) will peak at 5:59 a.m. Eastern Time on Sept. 10th. This full moon is the one that comes closest to the September equinox, which falls on Sept. 22, making it the Harvest Moon. When October's full moon is closer to the autumnal equinox, it gets the name harvest moon, and September's is called the corn moon.
