Thin Young Moon Setting.
On Sunday 28th August the 32 hours old, 1.4% illuminated, thin young Moon was observed setting between 6.23 and 6.26 pm behind Murahwa Mountain near Christmas pass in late volcanic sunset glow. The bright glare from another colorful volcanic sunset prevented the Moon from appearing until less than 20 minutes before it disappeared below the horizon in almost complete darkness. Poor visibility due to low light and smoke haze required a timelapse sequence of sixty one 1 second exposures at f6.1 and ISO 1600 to be taken to produce the accompanying 9 image mosaic and a separate x 30 speed animation of the final descent of the very thin young Moon to be posted as a comment.
