Meade telescope, Google Pixel cell phone.
Single exposure. Sharpened + a little contrast and mirror flipped which is caused by using a Schmidt–Cassegrain telescope to capture the image.
Our weather forecast played out accurately, unfortunately. After clearing the first obstacle of the Wasatch mountain range on the east side of the Salt Lake Valley, there was a low wall of cloud cover to deal with.
Once the moon gained some more height in the sky the clouds were thinner with openings now and then. They were moving north at fair clip but the openings were teasing at best. Most of the time it was hazy, wispy clouds then total coverage followed by a brief opening and then more wispy clouds.
I took 81 images and have already tossed 15 or so as unusable and perhaps have 1 or 2 decent shots with 2 or 3 more I might keep.
This image was taken 30 minutes after max umbra or peak of totality. The peak totality was obscured by the clouds.....grrrrr! But like anything in life, one must make the most of it. So I kept shooting during the openings. Then called it good after the Earth shadow started to depart the Moon's surface in earnest.
So glad to see that many EarthSky forumites also enjoyed this brief celestial event! Keep looking up!
