The blue-and-yellow macaw (Ara ararauna), also known as the blue-and-gold macaw, is a large South American parrot with mostly blue top parts and light orange underparts, with gradient hues of green on top of its head. It is a member of the large group of neotropical parrots known as macaws. It inhabits forest (especially varzea, but also in open sections of terra firme or unflooded forest), woodland and savannah of tropical South America. They are popular in aviculture because of their striking color, ability to talk, ready availability in the marketplace, and close bonding to humans. They can also live for 65–70 years. This macaw was not pictured in the wild, instead it was found perched on a tree top at local park here. During an evening stroll, there were 3 macaws brought by their owners to the park who was making loud noises and calling to one another. Since it was a public park assessed by the young and old, it was visual treat to the people and i photographed one of them that was resting on this branch while its owner was making an attempt to call it to come down. It was interesting that it did not bother about the park goers and continue to enjoy its time on the tree. How lucky I was to at least take some photographs of it in close proximity without travellin to a bird sanctuary. These birds if well taken care of are said to outlive the owner , so it is a long term commitment for anyone to keep it as a pet.
