Smoke-hazed Sunsets with Sunspot AR2778
Despite being at a sunspot minimum at the start of the new Solar Cycle 25 there have been three notable ones AR 2772, AR 2776 and AR 2778 since August. The recent AR2778 is the largest of Solar Cycle 25 so far. The accompanying mosaic prepared for four days from 27-30th, show them migrating towards the edge of the lower left quadrant of the solar disk. The smoke-haze which lingers close to the horizon at this time of year acts as a natural solar filter attenuating the light from the setting Sun sufficiently to make sunspots transiently visible in the camera viewfinder.
