Nikon CoolPix P900 camera at manual mode on tripod
None
The photo shows Venus, only 0.3% illuminated, captured through a thin blanket of clouds a few seconds before hiding behind a hill 4 km away. It was taken 4 minutes before sunset when the planet was 3.4° above the horizon and only 4.7° from the Sun, thus deeply inside its glare and well in the field of view of Soho`s Lasco C3 camera. The poor image of the planet resulted from the very bright background added to the attenuation caused by the intervening clouds and unstable atmospheric conditions just above the horizon.
