Sunset Crepuscular Rays and Venus
Ten minutes after the Sun disappeared below the horizon to the southwest of Mutare, a weak light pillar and faint crepuscular rays developed above the sunset point. This was followed by a six minute display of spectacular sunset crepuscular rays on either side of a clear blue cloud shadow in which Venus became visible. The rays were caused by setting sunlight passing between large cumulonimbus clouds in distant storms over Botswana.
