I do not lament the passing of the Summer Triangle in my NW sky for it is replaced by the Tropic Triangle in my SW sky. They are remarkably similar in shape and size. The hypotenuse of the Tropic Triangle (Canopus to Rigel) is 46°. The hypotenuse of the Summer Triangle (Altair to Deneb) is 38°. Since the Tropic Triangle contains the 2 brightest stars in the night sky, it is much more brilliant. And Orion resides at the base!
Of course the Tropic Triangle is my personal moniker for this asterism. Like the "Alexander's Crown", "Lunar M", "Bees' Triangle", "Giboon", etc., I'm trying to get the IAU to adopt. To no avail. Snobs!
