Camping on one of the many small islands of the Broken Group, I had set up my camera for an astro-timelapse during low tide. To my alarm I realized that I had misjudged how quickly high tide was returning, and I rushed back to my tripod just in time to see it already in nearly 2 feet of seawater. On my way back to my tent, I noticed what I first thought was fog rolling in. Looking more closely, I noticed that the "fog" was flaring - and at that point I realized that I was being treated to nothing more than the northern lights!
