Image of the Day: After the ice storm

Roxana Soetebeer in New Brunswick, Canada, took these photos today. Prior to today, she said, her area had freezing rain beginning Sunday night (March 6).

Roxana said parts of her province had 60 centimeters (24 inches) of snow. Then, today, the sun came out. Despite freezing air temperatures, the ice started to melt in the sun.

It was beautiful, she said. But she added … spring would be nice.

Looking forward to spring? Everything you need to know: vernal or spring equinox 2011
