Milky Way in moonless sky

Milky-Way-over-Brazil-Pedro-Canovas-Perez
Photograph of the Milky Way as seen over the mountains in Brazil thanks to EarthSky Facebook friend Pedro Canovas Perez.

With the moon gone from the evening sky, this is an excellent time to trek out to the country for an edgewise view into our own galaxy, the Milky Way.

Tonight: Look toward the center of the Milky Way galaxy

Pedro Canovas Perez had an excellent view from about 2,400 meters high in the mountains of Itatiaia National Park in Brazil. Itatiaia National Park is the oldest national park in Brazil and is surrounded by the Mantiqueira Mountain Environmental Protection Area which provides an ecological buffer zone for the park.

Thanks for the amazing picture Pedro!!
