Headlands International Dark Sky Park
October 8, 2017
Headlands International Dark Sky Park is located 2 miles (3.2 km) west of Mackinaw City, at the very top of the Michigan “mitten”. The Headlands became one of the first 10 International Dark Sky Parks in the world in 2011. The grounds are free and open all year round, day and night for stargazing, but camping is not permitted. There is an observatory on the grounds as well, which hosts telescopes for deep space imaging, solar and planetary observations.
