Tom Tomich’s agricultural roots go back to his family’s farm in Northern California. He is now founding director of the Agricultural Sustainability Institute at the University of California – Davis, and W. K. Kellogg Endowed Chair in Sustainable Food Systems. Trained as an agricultural economist, Dr. Tomich was principal economist for the World Agroforestry Centre from 1994-2006, working with the ASB Partnership for the Tropical Forest Margins, first in Southeast Asia and then as ASB global coordinator. In this capacity he led long-term collaborative partnerships at sites in the Amazon, Congo Basin, and Southeast Asia aimed at raising productivity and income of rural households while preserving the environment.
