Robert S. Langer is the David H. Koch Institute Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He is one of 14 MIT Institute Professors, which is the highest honor that can be awarded to a faculty member. Dr. Langer has written over 1,100 scholarly articles. He has approximately 760 worldwide patents, either issued or pending. Dr. Langer’s patents have been licensed or sublicensed to over 220 pharmaceutical, chemical, biotechnology and medical device companies. Born in 1948 as the son of a liquor store owner in Albany, New York, Langer earned his bachelor’s degree from Cornell University in chemical engineering and went on to receive a Ph.D. from MIT in that field.
