Alexander van Geen is a research scientist at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University. Arsenic in well water is one of his main research interests, and he’s developed a mobile-phone device called “Welltracker” for accessing well safety information, at the village level. He’s interested in the bridging of disciplines, including the health and social sciences, to address multi-faceted environmental problems.
