John Wiltshire is director of NOAA’s Hawaii Undersea Research Laboratory (HURL), NOAA’s undersea research center for Hawaii and the western Pacific. He also serves as chairman for the University of Hawaii’s Department of Ocean and Resources Engineering. Before earning a Ph.D. in geological oceanography, he worked in the oil and gas industry. Wiltshire is author of more than 90 scientific papers on ocean resources, mineral economics, scientific submersibles, and sustainable minerals development.
