Chemist Joanna Fowler studies the brain and diseases such as addiction using positron emission tomography (PET scans) among other techniques. In 2009, Dr. Fowler won the National Medal of Science, the nation’s highest award for lifetime science achievement. Dr. Fowler is a senior scientist at Brookhaven National Laboratory. She also holds the National Academy of Sciences Award in Chemical Sciences.
