Geoffrey Coates is a chemist, and the Tisch University Professor at Cornell University. He earned his doctorate in organic chemistry from Stanford University. Coates has received a number of awards for his research, including the 2009 Award for Affordable Green Chemistry, from the American Chemical Society. His work using carbon dioxide and limonene – a chemical compound created from orange rinds – to create plastics was one of ‘Six Ideas that Will Change the World,’ according to Esquire magazine.
