Since 1982 Dr. Eddie Bernard has served as Director of the Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory, a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration oceanographic research laboratory. He served as Director of NOAA’s National Tsunami Warning Center in Honolulu for 3 years, which influenced his research toward public safety. His research led to the development of the present-day tsunami warning system. Dr. Bernard has published over 80 scientific papers and has served as editor for three scientific books.
