Benito R. Fernandez designs and builds a wide variety of robots and cybernetic systems in his lab at the University of Texas at Austin. He specializes in what is called Applied Intelligence, a field that includes artificial neural networks, fuzzy logic, evolutionary systems, genetic algorithms and artificial immune systems. Dr. Fernandez earned his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1988. He is now a faculty member at UT Austin, where he conducts research and teaches.
