Oh, it is possible to be depressed and engage in regular intense physical activity such as weight lifting and cardio. However, it does help.

Anyway, it sounds like a great program they are developing, and yes it would benefit the general public.

What are your thoughts on regular bouts of resistance training? This seems to be a very good counter-measure for depression and has other counter measure atributes (osteopenia-sarcopenia) from micro gravity as well as physical performance attributes. Astronauts sure do need a universal antidote for what they are going to encounter.
25 years of going to the gym and working out, I have never known anyone that goes to the gym or works out at home on a dedicated schedule be depressed. Don't think it is possible to be depressed and engage in intense physical exercise. I have seen depressed people go to the gym and seemingly shed themselves from depression. And I have seen normal people stop going to the gym and fall to depression. Do you think brain chemistry and phsycological attributes associated with intense exercise defy depression better than any other therapy? It seems to me that there is more of a physiological adaptation that reduces depression from the training stimulus that psychological inputs cannot produce.
