We humans are many things, however.  I try to have faith in human intelligence, adaptability and cooperativeness.  

Often it is discouraging, but there are good signs, too.

		<description>The Anthropocene has a variable that no other epoch has had.  This variable acts like a Joker or Wild Card.  This variable has the potential to wreak as much havoc as any force of nature.

The variable of which I speak is Politics.  Only humans link various aspects of the cause and effect relationship we have with the earth to particular political views.  We flatter, and blind, ourselves  when we use things like sustainability and climate change as &quot;tools&quot; to achieve particular political goals.

To put it bluntly, Nature doesn&#039;t give a rat&#039;s ass about our aspirations for power and influence over each other.  Nature will continue to follow its own agenda and punish harshly those who have the hubris to think that they can bend Nature to their will.</description>
