Without self awareness, there can be no judgements of value. Environmental damage is defined by humans. Environmental repair is defined by humans.&lt;/p&gt;

	&lt;p&gt;When a caldera explodes and destroys everything down wind, the animals and plants just die. They make no value judgements. Of course, the land returns to fertility in a few millenia. It just is. No value, good or bad.&lt;/p&gt;

	&lt;p&gt;Environmental damage is defined as something we humans don&#8217;t like. Period.&lt;/p&gt;
