Video: A bird ballet

This amazing video was shot a few days ago (January 2013) by filmmaker Neels Castillon. He was on a commercial video shoot in Marseille, France when suddenly thousands of birds appeared – swooping and diving in unison – and put on this dazzling display.

Recommended full screen viewing. Thanks for such a beautiful video, Neels. Nature is truly mesmerizing.

A Bird Ballet | Short Film from Neels CASTILLON on Vimeo.

Neels described the scene before the shoot:

We were shooting for a commercial with my D.O.P, waiting for an helicopter flying into the sunset, when thousands and thousands of birds came and made this incredible dance in the sky. It was amazing, we just forgot our job and started this little piece of poetry… Enjoy !

Thanks to the birds… (I’m not sure but I think it’s starlings)

How do birds move in unison and react to one another so quickly? We did a story about it a couple weeks ago.

Originally seen here. Thanks guys!

Bottom line: Beautiful video by Neels Castillon, showing starlings swooping and diving in unison across the sky.

How do flocking birds move in unison?
