Chronicles of a Science Experiment: Episode 9

In this ninth episode of Chronicles of a Science Experiment, Aaron’s confident that he’s learned enough about the puzzle-like system of proteins and sugar molecules he’s synthesizing in his lab to be able to publish results in a scientific journal.

Aaron Strickland: What’s important to us is that, when you start out making a puzzle, you usually start with one piece. And that’s what we’d like to do. We would like to start with one protein sitting at the surface.

Welcome to EarthSky’s Chronicles of a Science Experiment, Episode 9. This season we’re following Aaron Strickland, a postdoctoral chemist at Cornell University. His research project is on nanotechnology, the science of the very small. In this Episode 9, Aaron’s confident that he’s learned enough about the puzzle-like system of proteins and sugar molecules he’s synthesizing in his lab to be able to publish results in a scientific journal. So far, the goal of his experiment has been to create a kind of sugar that self-assembles crystals of protein onto itself, modeled after E. coli bacteria.

Our thanks to Aaron Strickland, National Science Foundation Discovery Corps Fellow and Cornell University chemist. Carl Batt of Cornell created the concept for this program.

wow, cool research. is the nano technology related with nanotubes of buckminster fullerenes or this is nanotechnology only in the field of biochemistry?

  2. Virgil Polinske says:

I receive the podcasts and there seems to be problem with Episode 9 as it would not download and, when I tried to play it from the site, it wouldn’t play.

  3. Lee-Anne Phillips says:

I have the same problem as Mr Polinske. Chronicles of a Science Experiment: Episode 9 appears as a failed download in iTunes, but won’t load from anywhere on the site.

  4. EarthSky says:

    Virgil and Lee-Anne,

Thank you both for your feedback. The audio should now be available as expected.

  5. startling! I am always looking forward for your new research…
