What we’re seeing looks a bit eerie from this perspective, partly because Earthlings see the apparent size of the sun and moon in the sky as nearly equivalent. That’s why we call it an eclipse, instead of a transit.

NASA’s “STEREO”:http://stereo.gsfc.nasa.gov/ mission consists of two observatories in space – one ahead of Earth in its orbit, the other trailing behind. Using these viewpoints, scientist aim to see the structure and evolution of solar storms as they blast from Earth’s sun and move out through space.
