EarthSky shaped by advisory board

EarthSky today announced its Global Science Advisory Council for 2007 and 2008. This board of leading scientists will provide guidance on EarthSky’s content and mission in the coming years.

‘It is a priority of EarthSky to present the voices and insights of scientists speaking on important issues, as we work toward a sustainable world in the 21st century,’ said EarthSky Communications founder and president Deborah Byrd. ‘EarthSky advisors are some of the most prominent scientists in the world in the emerging discipline of sustainability science. Plus we have one world-class astrophysicist. These individuals care about what we do because they care about disseminating the message of hope that science brings to the world.’

Members of EarthSky’s Global Science Advisory Council are as follows.

Kenneth Arrow is an economist at Stanford University. He is a Nobel Memorial Prize Winner, 1972.

Shawki Barghouti is an advisor to Agriculture and Rural Development at the World Bank.

Scott Barrett is a professor and director of the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University.

Carol Brewer is a professor and associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Montana.

Felicia Coleman is a scholar scientist in the Department of Biological Science at Florida State University and director of the FSU Coastal and Marine Laboratory.

Alexander de Sherbinin is a senior staff associate at the Population-Environment Research Network, CIESIN, Columbia University.

Lori M. Hunter is an associate professor of Sociology and Environmental Studies at the University of Colorado.

Malanding Jaiteh is a staff associate at CIESIN, Columbia University.

Virginia Trimble is a professor of Physics and Astronomy at UC Irvine and a staff astronomer at Las Cumbres Observatory.

Robert Waide is the executive director of the LTER Network Office at the University of New Mexico.
